About the Tournament

The FiF Dodgeball Tournament is held on two days (Friday, July 28 and Saturday, July 29, 2017). All three divisions (Keiki, Youth, and Masters) play both days. Teams consists of a minimum of six players (maximum of ten). All players are required to fill out an Player Registration Form. You are not required to have a team to register as a player. Individuals that do not have a team will be placed on a team a week before the tournament starts. Players who have formed a team, are required to also fill out a Team Registration Form (one form per team).

Keiki & Youth Division teams may be coed.  Master’s Division teams have separate brackets for Coed and Kane:
  • Coed teams shall have no less than three females on a team with a minimum of 3 females on the starting line up.
  • Kane teams are not required to have females members of their teams.

The tournament is governed by the FiF Dodgeball Rules that are adapted from the World Dodgeball Federation Rule Book and the National Amateur Dodgeball Association.

During Saturday's session, teams are encouraged to wear a "themed" team outfit/costume.

The FiF Dodgeball Tournament is run solely by volunteers. Each team must assign at least one representative of their team to serve as a volunteer for the tournament.

The representative does not have to be a player and can be a parent or a friend of one of the players. Volunteers opportunities include helping at open practices, being a referee, tournament staff, set-up or breakdown, etc. Teams will be required to complete the Team Volunteer Form.

Divisions and Brackets

There are three divisions and five brackets.
  • Keiki Division - Single Bracket for 10 & U

  • Youth Division, 13 & Under Bracket
  • Youth Division, 17 & Under Bracket

  • Masters Division, 18 & Over, Coed Bracket
  • Masters Division, 18 & Over, Kane Bracket

Pending on the size of each bracket, either "Round-Robin" or "Pool Play" format is utilize. A championship is match occurs at each bracket.

A "match" consists of the best out of three games. A three-minute time limit has been established for all games in all divisions. The first team to legally eliminate all opposing players will be declared the winner for that game.

If neither team has been eliminated at the end of three minutes, the team with the greater number of players remaining will be declared the winner of the game.

In the case of an equal number of players remaining after regulation, a 1-minute sudden-death overtime period will be played.  The first team to out an opponent is declared the winner.

Forming a Team

A player is limited to playing on no more than two different teams.  The teams must be in different brackets
  • Example: A player can belong to a team in the youth 13&U division and 17&U division, but not on 2 different 13 & U teams.

A player can play up in an older division but not in a younger division. In addition, a team may not have more than 3 of the same players participating on two teams within the same division.
  • Example: You cannot have the same team play in both the Master’s Coed and Master’s Kane brackets. You can form two teams in these brackets as long as both teams have no more than 3 of the same players.

Individuals that do not have a team will be placed on a team a week before the tournament starts. However, many individuals that attend open practice sessions end up being recruited by other teams--we strongly encourage you to come to the open practices.

Mixed teams or “family teams” contain players of different ages, and normally participate in the age bracket of the oldest member of the team, but children under the age of 12 are not allowed to play on a Master’s Team.  In addition, an FIF official can deem a player ineligible to play on an upper division team due to physicality, even if the age requirement is met.  A final determination will be made prior to the start of the tournament.

Age exceptions – In some cases, a team may be formed with an age exception.  This would occur when a team has a player with a recent birthday that would place him/her in an older bracket.  Age exceptions are taken into consideration if the player’s birth date was no more than 6 months before the tournament date.  This is on a case by case basis and can only be approved by the tournament director.  Only one age exception is allowed per team. Tournament officials reserve the right to request proof of age.

Tournament Rules

It is imperative that each player understand and abide by the FiF Dodgeball Tournament Rules.  Each player, as part of their registration form, sign an acknowledgment  that states that they have read and understand the FiF Tournament Rules and Code of Conduct.

If there are any questions, it is up to each player to have these questions clarified by a tournament official prior to game play.  Tournament rules are available online and will be made available during open practice sessions and the tournament.
